Mission to Protect Wild Lobster Stocks Moves Forward

Categories: Latest News

Caribbean Sustainable Fisheries is thrilled to announce the start of construction on our new lobster farm in East End, British Virgin Islands. The new farm is a testament to our commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices that support the local community, protect the environment, and ensure the conservation of lobster stocks.

As a company, we recognize the importance of scaling up our operations while maintaining our commitment to environmental responsibility. That's why we're using renewable energy sources where possible, such as solar panels, to power the new farm. By doing so, we're significantly reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable operation.

We also understand the importance of creating an environment conducive to lobster growth while minimizing our impact on the on-land environment. To that end, we have designed the farm to provide a habitat that is optimal for lobster growth and development. Lobsters are nocturnal creatures that prefer a dark environment, so our farm is specially designed to cater to their needs.

East End is being constructed using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) technology. This technology allows for the cleaning, sterilization, and re-use of all waste seawater multiple times before being discharged. The system operates quietly, and there is no direct discharge to the ocean. Any minimal amount of outgoing water is first treated, sterilized, and filtered through mangroves before draining away. This ensures that we do not damage the marine ecosystem.

We are also committed to promoting economic growth in the local community. East End farm will create job opportunities for residents in the region. We believe it’s essential to support local businesses and provide employment opportunities for the people who live in the area. By doing so, we are contributing to the economic growth of the region.

This project is a testament to our vision for the future, where responsible and sustainable aquaculture practices can coexist with economic growth and community development.
